FIVE STAR FRIDAY Review: Chasing Death Metal Dreams, by Kaje Harper

October 9, 2015 by Katie, Back Porch Reader

I chose Chasing Death Metal Dreams this week for a few reasons. One being this is a really fucking good book. Next, we’re still observing Queer Romance Month and this is a prime example of the stories that are needed. Everyone needs a love story. Also, it doesn’t hurt those of us who walk a different path to read these stories. This was the first book of this particular flavor I’ve ever read. I learned SO much. I cried SO hard. I felt…all KINDS of beautiful things. I thought about this book for days and days after I finished reading it.

I’m excited to tell you about it.

Review: Dance With Me, by Heidi Cullinan

October 4, 2015 by Katie, Back Porch Reader

The Blurb:

DanceWithMe-HCullinanSometimes life requires a partner.

Ed Maurer has bounced back, more or less, from the neck injury that permanently benched his semipro football career. He hates his soul-killing office job, but he loves volunteering at a local community center. The only fly in his ointment is the dance instructor, Laurie Parker, who can’t seem to stay out of his way.

Review: Rattlesnake, by Kim Fielding

September 30, 2015 by Katie, Back Porch Reader

The Blurb:

Rattlesnake-kfieldingA drifter since his teens, Jimmy Dorsett has no home and no hope. What he does have is a duffel bag, a lot of stories, and a junker car. Then one cold desert night he picks up a hitchhiker and ends up with something more: a letter from a dying man to the son he hasn’t seen in years.

On a quest to deliver the letter, Jimmy travels to Rattlesnake, a small town nestled in the foothills of the California Sierras. The centerpiece of the town is the Rattlesnake Inn, where the bartender is handsome former cowboy Shane Little. Sparks fly, and when Jimmy’s car gives up the ghost, Shane gets him a job as handyman at the inn.

Review: First, by K.C. Wells

September 28, 2015 by Katie, Back Porch Reader

The Blurb:

First-kcwellsIt’s taken Tommy Newsome a while to get his head around being gay.

Growing up in a small town in Georgia, hasn’t prepared him for the more liberal life of a student at the university in Athens. Add to that the teachings of his parents and his church, and you have one shy young man who feels out of his depth. Working on his daddy’s farm hasn’t given him any chance of a social life, certainly not one like the clubs of Atlanta have on offer. Not that Tommy feels comfortable when he gets to sample it—Momma’s lectures still ring loudly inside his head.

?Review: The Price of Dick, by Dan Skinner

September 13, 2015 by Katie, Back Porch Reader

Blurb:

priceofdick-danskinnerHis name is Richard but he’ll say, “Call me Dick.” He’s a big, butch, brainy guy in an executive suit, hotter than spit on a skillet. The type of guy you can see fully dressed and imagine buck naked in the throes of an orgasm – every six-feet-two, muscular, sexually intoxicating inch of him. He’s an ambitious freshman in a prominent brokerage firm who’s figured out he can use more than his smarts to get ahead. He’s perfected a surefire method to drive home a hard deal. No one can resist him. And he’s got one really big secret. But that will cost you.

For photographer J.J. Johnstone, the price of Dick just might cost him everything.
