Review:
I was leery of this book going in.
I wasn’t sure I needed Until You because I don’t need weddings to seal an HEA for my heroes. Working toward a believable, solid long-term future is all I ask for. Rings, vows overseen by an officiant, and the hoopla of flowers, photographers, and big fancy cake — meh.
Then, TJ Klune and I are not on the same comedy wavelength, usually. And this is the sort of comedy I’ve found I least enjoy wrapped up with unnecessary bells and bows of the nuptial variety. So honestly, not a book or series that I’d typically go for.
But it’s TJ KLUNE and I can’t stay away.
And this was FAN-FUCKING-TASTIC with comedy that had me rolling on the floor (shocking! I know).
Because. Well, maybe I was in the right sort of mood. But also because in all the slapstick mayhem that TJ creates there’s still a layer of emotion that socks me in the gut.
Paul is not a typical muscled-up, too good-looking-for-his-own-good hero. Vince is that muscly hero — though, not all that bright in a textbook sense. Maybe they’re an unlikely pair, or just maybe they’re perfect together in every single way.
Paul’s self-worth is still getting the best of him when he wonders why Vince wants to spend the rest of their lives bound in holy matrimony. And, it can be argued, that Vince, less obviously, might feel some of the same doubts. But the love is strong — even if we have to dig under all the over-the-top, spastic hilarity to get to the heart of the matter.
And that’s just it…the heart. Because this motley cast of characters including and surrounding Paul and Vince are all heart, with boundless love for one another that would survive to the end of days.
This series has been a progression of so-so kinda like to out and out love. It’s taken until book three for it to finally grow on me — somewhat like ivy that clings to all the wrong things and won’t die.
Maybe I was in the wrong mood for book one. Maybe I was in the right mood for book three and somewhere in between for book two. I don’t know, don’t care, and refuse to question or attempt to explain my fickle behavior.
Until You is an unfiltered and ridiculous good time that barely stops to catch a breath. The love, y’all — the love is real.

About the Author:
When TJ Klune was eight, he picked up a pen and paper and began to write his first story (which turned out to be his own sweeping epic version of the video game Super Metroid—he didn’t think the game ended very well and wanted to offer his own take on it. He never heard back from the video game company, much to his chagrin). Now, over two decades later, the cast of characters in his head have only gotten louder. But that’s okay, because he’s recently become a full-time writer, and can give them the time they deserve.
Since being published, TJ has won the Lambda Literary Award for Best Gay Romance, fought off three lions that threatened to attack him and his village, and was chosen by Amazon as having written one of the best GLBT books of 2011.
And one of those things isn’t true.
(It’s the lion thing. The lion thing isn’t true.)
