Happy Friday and a belated Happy New Year!
I’m slowly but surely getting into the swing of 2016. It’s been lots of work, work, work and less reading than I’d like. But, ya know how it is…gotta do the thing that earns the money so I can buy more books.
BUT! I didn’t want another Friday to slip by without digging one of my favorites off the shelf to show you.
So, without further ado:
Blurb:
‘Fun with Dick and Shane’ introduces Gillibran Brown, a houseboy with the gift of the gab.
Gilli shares a unique relationship with his partners Dick and Shane and the book deals with everyday life, love, sex and consensual spanking in a gay ménage à trois.
Gilli’s observations and anecdotes are entertaining, sometimes hilarious and often moving.
If you think this houseboy’s life might interest you, then welcome. Step over the threshold, but wipe your feet first, as he’s just polished the parquet.
A funny, fascinating and sexy book about men in a discipline relationship.

Review:
I didn’t review this after I read it. And I don’t have a good excuse because even though I wasn’t blogging at the time, I was reviewing. I think (maybe) I was so eager to move to the next book. Or, I thought the book had been out so long my little review wouldn’t make much difference.
Here’s the thing I’ve learned: Reviews ALWAYS make a difference–no matter how small, no matter where posted, no matter how long the book has been out in the world. A review can have the power to breathe new life. Even if it’s just the three little words “I liked it.”
So…I’m scratching the depths of my aging memory to tell you what I loved about this book.
Three Man Menage–yep. Holy Hotness! Really. Truly. There isn’t loads of on-page triple-M action. In fact, it’s mostly off-page–but whatevs. HOT.
Domestic Discipline–good lord a’mighty. I get this may not be for everyone. But, I love kink–and this is one that absolutely intrigues me because it’s ALL THE TIME. Not just play, not just for the sake of it, but a way of life that has to have a structure or it doesn’t work. The three men in this relationship not only want this structure, but need it, and work hard to keep it functioning.
So MMM+DD is some math I could REALLY get on board with.
It’s written as a memoir–these typically aren’t my cuppa, and it takes about half a millisecond to get used to. Okay, maybe a bit longer. But not much. It just doesn’t matter because it’s so all-consuming and intriguing and entertaining.
Entertaining? Yes. Absolutely. This book is fucking hilarious. Gillibran, Gilli for short, is utterly endearing, precocious, a bit bratty, a little jealous, full of antics that you KNOW will result in him getting his ass blistered–frequently.
The humor is not all in the DD aspects; it’s in how he sees the world and his daily choices.
This also made me cry. I don’t remember precisely why…it’s just in my notes that tears actually fell from my eyes and trailed down my cheeks, and I needed tissues to mop it all up.
I loved this so much that I immediately devoured the next available books in the series.

The Snail Affair was a short released in late 2015, and Revelations is currently a work in progress with currently no date for publication.
Now, let’s chat about the memoir aspect. Is this real? Is there really a Gillibran Brown, houseboy to two Daddies, toiling away at keeping floors shiny, creative cooking endeavors that are hit-or-miss, and frequently getting his rumpus wallopped?
There are dissenting thoughts on this from what I’ve read in reviews.
There is an online blog http://www.gillibran-brown.com/diary.php that I check in on from time to time, and it’s updated irregularly, but at least once a month wherein our dear Gilli shares his most recent thoughts and antics. Although not posted on his site, there’s an email address floating around the interwebs that can be found with some digging. Lots of folks have reported writing to and getting responses from Gilli.
Some people think this is the work of a genius mastermind who has been keeping up the ruse of a fictional character since 2006.
Me? Well…I’m someone who still believes in the magic of Santa. Not the man, necessarily, but the magic. That’s a whole ‘nother story that I could pontificate on for pages. Maybe I’ll revisit that for ya come next Christmas. But, as for Gilli, my heart needs to believe he is real. His stories, while genuinely humorous, are also so full of emotion, longing, and the trials of daily life. Sometimes it’s painful; sometimes he shares things that most of us take for granted. It’s all done in such a way that he’s carved a special place in my heart and it makes me want to send him cookies. So, YES I’m a believer without question or hesitation. Also, keeping up a fictional character in an online blog for going on 10 years…please. Although it is something that is done by some–doesn’t fit the Gilli we get to know in his books and blog entries.
The truth often is stranger than fiction, isn’t it? But truth or fiction, it makes no difference because the books are genuinely superb.
To Gilli…if you’ve followed the ping-back to find this post–hugs to you and best wishes in the coming year. Be good, be naughty…or at least, be good at being naughty.

This is another one that kept coming up as a recommendation and I put it off for ages and don’t know why. It was totally worth it.
